SUCCESS STORIES Kennedi Lomax

Ready to Soar

by Kennedi Lomax

Kennedi Lomax was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, also known as Rocket City. Her first love was basketball, as she began playing the sport at the age of 4 years old. She also fell in love with space exploration at a very young age and was fortunate enough to attend Space Camp at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. Because basketball was her first love, she dedicated majority of her time and efforts toward building her dream, becoming a collegiate athlete. In 2016, Kennedi graduated from Madison County High school with a final GPA of 3.8. Fall 2016, Kennedi began her first year of College at Shorter University, the following year she transferred to Snead State Community College where she finished her collegiate basketball career in Aerospace Engineering. In 2018, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Snead State Community College where she received Associates in Science.

Fall 2018, Kennedi began her junior year at Tuskegee University as an Aerospace Science Engineering major. After being at Tuskegee for one semester, she earned a co-op with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab as a Cable Harnessing Engineer in Spring 2019, followed by a summer internship with Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab as a System’s Engineer. It was when Kennedi returned to Tuskegee in the Fall of 2019 when she was introduced to the Redtail Scholarship Foundation and unlocked her hidden passion for flying. Kennedi was granted her position on the Redtail Scholarship Foundation in January 2019 and is currently working with her instructor, Daniel Croom, on earning her Private’s Pilot’s License.
